Market Awareness: Don’t be Mislead

May 9, 2013 at 1:18 am

A new electric rate offer recently hit the energy market that is confusing to both business and residential consumers. It is NOT the unbelievably low rate that they want you to think. If it was the “deal of the century” we’d tell you to sign it immediately.

If you have received a rate offer that is leading you to believe that you are securing a rate for 36- months at $.0469 per kWh, you have been severely mislead.

This rate offer of $.0469 is actually just the adder to the base cost of the electricity.

The real offer is: Cost of Electricity + Adder = Cost of Electricity + $.0469 per kWh. In addition to this adder there is also the Pass-Through Charges

In fact, when you receive the contract you are required to sign and initial that you understand that this is not a fixed rate offer at all. The offer is actually a variable rate product where the price will change monthly.
